1. That battery was more than just usually out gassing 2. It wasn't the whole duration of the trip, maybe the last hour or so that it was steaming/smoking/whatevering. I don't remember how far from the hotel we were when we noticed it, but it was definitely after the last time we stopped before getting to the hotel.
But you're right, just because it's "sealed" doesn't mean tings don't happen. If jmw puts it in a sealed box and vents it outside, he should have no problems. That's actually a good idea for whatever battery he puts back there, and I want to say a law
